Puget Ridge Neighborhood http://pugetridge.org Mon, 14 Aug 2017 22:01:56 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.4.10 Spring Cleanup 2017 http://pugetridge.org/spring-cleanup-2017/ Wed, 24 May 2017 00:21:52 +0000 http://pugetridge.org/?p=737 40 people, of all ages, came out on Saturday to clean up the neighborhood and work on the trail in Puget Park. About the same number had a lovely, sunny Pizza Party at Puget Ridge Edible Park.

And here’s a report from Kurt about the work in Puget Park: We worked on surfacing the trail at the front entrance to the park at 19th and Dawson. We hope to have the trail cleared to the power lines this year. We work on the trail–surfacing, grading, or clearing it–every third Saturday from 9 to noon. It’s a small group of people doing this work, and we welcome all to come join in when they can.

Thank you to all neighbors who distributed flyers for this event. Thank you to those of you who donated money for the pizzas, and to Olympic Pizza for getting them to us. Thanks to those who brought extra food (like Rob and his sliders, the cake slices, and cookies). And thanks to Rudy and Joanna for the use of their trucks to haul away the bags.

We hope you’ll join us for the Summer Clean-up! Stay tuned for the date.

Winter Cleanup 2017 http://pugetridge.org/winter-cleanup-2017/ Sun, 26 Feb 2017 20:36:07 +0000 http://pugetridge.org/?p=708 Eighteen people, including three children, worked together in a gentle rain and picked up a large pile of trash. The trash included hypodermic needles. (Great care is needed when reaching to pick up trash that is partially covered with leaves, etc.)
Neighbors are seeking help from the City to thoroughly clean up places where needles have been found.

Spring Clean 2015, Garden Tour, Meeting http://pugetridge.org/spring-clean-2015-garden-tour-meeting/ Thu, 14 May 2015 05:13:47 +0000 http://pugetridge.org/?p=680 Twelve neighbors participated in our 2015 Spring Clean including three young people. It was good getting to know each other. Some spots in the neighborhood (for example, the Holly and Myrtle stairs), look better, thanks to the work of our Spring Cleaners. .

The garden tour was also a success. It was a beautiful day for a garden tour. Folks learned about permaculture concepts, saw some unusual edible plants, and took in a large variety of berry bushes and fruit trees.

In the evening several of us enjoyed a potluck while playing “Puget Ridge Trivia”—i.e., asking and answering questions about Puget Ridge, past and present. We have a history! (“Anyone remember when there was a small grocery store right in Puget Ridge?” Someone did!) Prizes, donated by neighbors (thank you!) enlivened the last part of the evening.

Community supported agriculture http://pugetridge.org/community-supported-agriculture/ Sat, 25 Apr 2015 19:22:33 +0000 http://pugetridge.org/?p=671 It’s Spring! And those of us who don’t have our own gardens can get wonderful veggies from our neighbors at the High Point ‘P-patch’ – I had to look a bit, so here for your convenience is the link to their website (see below:) Click to download their form, send it in with payment, and pick up veggies weekly starting in June! I’m going for the half share at $15/wk, it’s fantastic the amts. you get as the summer goes on!

Winter Clean Up Successful http://pugetridge.org/winter-clean-up-successful/ Tue, 27 Jan 2015 05:15:03 +0000 http://pugetridge.org/?p=668 Twenty-nine neighbors filled 50 bags of trash on January 24, 2015, as part of the City’s Adopt-a-Street program. The rain stopped just in time for our event. We enjoyed working together as we beautified our surroundings.

Puget Ridge 2014 Fall Cleanup http://pugetridge.org/puget-ridge-2014-fall-cleanup/ Sun, 09 Nov 2014 02:14:12 +0000 http://pugetridge.org/?p=659 Right at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2014, the sun came out for the Puget Ridge fall cleanup! And the rain held off until we finished our work. Twenty-one Puget Ridge neighbors of various ages picked up about twenty-six bags of trash, several tires, and various interesting items from Puget Ridge streets, stairways, and green spaces.

In the evening, sixteen neighbors attended a potluck and meeting. We learned more about the future of Puget Ridge Edible Park and about the goats that are temporarily living there.

In the new year the City will begin the process of allocating funds for the development of projects such as ours. Eventually our project will be funded. Then we can hire an architect to help us design our “edible park.” Once we have the design, we can all get to work–building soil, planting, and so on. We hope to also have some work parties before all of the above happens.

At the meeting we took turns sharing about our individual food-growing gardens. Many people had been growing food and reported on successes and failures with various crops. We talked about how we might help in each other’s gardens, and help other neighbors get started in growing food. Also, some of us have sunny yards and grow a lot of tomatoes and cucumbers; others have a lot of greens; some of us have fruit trees; some even have chickens! Perhaps we could specialize in what we grow and trade with each other.

Puget Ridge is doing cleanups every quarter. We hope to see some of you at the winter cleanup! (Date to be announced later.)
